Yeah love this shot!! and I agree if the pole could've been removed from the shot it'd be perfect. A good candidate for photoshop I guess :)
I'm also wondering if reframing this a little may have improved it. I hear about rule of thirds all the time and I wonder if the shot was reframed (or perhaps just cropped) to put the focused lamp at a "point of third", would it improve the composition even more.
I kinda like the pole there only because it 'grounds' it a bit.... i image without it and its like its ognna fall over. I dont know if that makes sense. But at the same time, i agree it is a little distracting to the main focus.... to be honest when i took the pic i didnt actually notice the pole...i might have reframed if i did :D
poya got any sites about the thirds thing your talking about? There are some rules like that in painting but im wondering if you are reffering to the same thing or not

It's probably the same idea. Here is an article about it but there are many more.
But...you are an artist and probably doing this intuitively anyway :)
